Taking off his wizard's hat and long cloak and handing them in passing to some servants, he ordered in a loud, uncompromising voice, "Out, all of you! I want peace and quiet to examine old King Herbert."
The whole court went out without a word. But, deep down, they were really quite horribly displeased and very unhappy. They were dying of curiosity to know what mysterious and important thing the wizard Magnus Occultus was doing behind the closed doors. Many courtiers couldn't resist. They had their ears pressed up against the door of the royal chamber. And, the very rudest ones were and shoving about the keyhole, peering through it nosily. But, they couldn't see anything, and all they could hear from behind the closed doors was the same old pain-filled royal "Ah, ah..." and "Oh, oh..."
